Readers sound off on the Democratic agenda, real estate taxes and protest movements

Lindenhurst, L.I.: President Biden’s efforts to improve life for all Americans, not just the wealthy, show that even though he is president, Republicans want to thwart any attempts he makes toward needed, sweeping changes. It’s obvious that Republicans only care about the wealthy, having no qualms about tax cuts for the super-rich, as was done by the prior administration. Yet, as a senior middle-class homeowner on Long Island, I am only allowed to deduct up to $10,000 of my combined real estate property taxes and state income taxes. This was an initiative of the Trump administration. There are so many facets of Biden’s original bill that could go a long way to helping change the plight of low- and middle-class Americans, yet Republicans (plus two senators masking as Democrats) continue to act on behalf of the super-wealthy. Until effective campaign finance reforms are made, nothing will change. Currently, it is the Democratic Party that cares about all people, not just the “haves.” Larry D’Angelo
